Kairos: Seizing the Moment
to Build a Greener Future
REA KLAR
Our planet faces unprecedented challenges—from deforestation and pollution to climate change. At Trinity Western Environmental Club (TWEC), we embrace kairos—the opportune moment to ignite decisive action. Sustainability Week, running from March 17–22, is a bold initiative designed to educate, engage, and mobilize our community to preserve our natural world.
Monday – Bat Walk with Benett ImBeau
Begin the week with an illuminating bat walk led by environmental studies alumnus Benett ImBeau. Set against a sunset backdrop, this experience reveals the crucial role bats play in urban biodiversity. Observing these nocturnal creatures in their natural habitat offers insights into natural pest control and the delicate balance of our ecosystem, emphasizing that every species is vital to environmental harmony.
Tuesday – Garbage Cleanup
Tuesday offers an opportunity for service at TWU. Meet us at the Back-40 Ecosystem Study Area tunnel entrance where we will begin our hands-on garbage cleanup. Help us revitalize our community spaces! This initiative demonstrates that every effort contributes to our collective environmental well-being.
Wednesday – Bird Walk with Dr. David Clements
Delve into local biodiversity on Wednesday with a guided bird walk led by Dr. David Clements, professor of biology and geography and environment. This curated tour explores the rich variety of local bird species, detailing their migratory patterns, ecological roles, and the challenges they face. The walk fosters a deeper appreciation for avian life and reinforces the interconnectedness of all living systems—an essential perspective for effective conservation.
Thursday – Flower Pot Painting
Thursday’s flower pot painting session is an opportunity for participants to create vibrant works of art to grow their flowers in. Invite friends and make matching pot designs! Pots and paint supplies are provided.
Friday – Premiere of the Garry Oak Documentary
To conclude Sustainability Week, join us at the DeVries Auditorium for the premiere of the Garry Oak documentary. This film provides an in-depth look at sustainable forestry practices and the importance of preserving our natural heritage. Do not forget to bring your own cup for water!
Saturday – Exclusive Lunch
Join us for an exclusive weekend lunch at Down2Earth at 1:30 p.m. This refined event provides an opportunity for students to network with the TWEC executive team. We will have meaningful discussions about environmental stewardship and the future of TWEC. Attendance is by invitation on a first-come, first-served basis to those interested in continuing on as members of the club. To qualify for an invitation to the restaurant, send a photo from the bat and bird walks to @twec.twu on Instagram.
Join the TWU Environmental Club
We invite environmentally-conscious future leaders to join us for the 2025/2026 school year.
